Comic book series Archie is the latest to get a woke makeover as one of the former female characters is brought back as a transgender woman.
In the new ‘Strange Science’ series, Danni Malloy, who was formerly known as the love interest of Dilton Doiley, is coming back as a transgender woman.
The series, written by trans comic author Magdalene Visaggio and illustrated by artist Butch Mapa, is expected to be released in August 2023.
The goal is to make the series ‘more queer’, she said. Visaggio said she has wanted to ‘make this happen for a long time.’
‘I’m honored I got to make it happen, and I’m grateful to Archie for never, not even once, pushing back on my insistence on making their books a little bit more queer,’ Vissagio said to Gizmodo.Â

‘I hope Danni finds a good home at Archie with supportive writers and artists helping to keep her alive for years to come,’ Vissagio said.
Archie Comics senior director of editorial Jamie L. Rotante said this new series ‘is one of, if not the, most important one-shots we’ve released to date.’
‘It also showcases how versatile horror can be, as it deftly blends sci-fi with horror and tells a beautiful, poignant tale about confronting the past.
‘That’s all thanks to writer Magdalene Visaggio, who had the idea to have Danni Malloy tell her own story about her transition,’ he said.
Many comic fans were outraged online. ‘Another series people will not be buying and it’s s*** like this is why Manga is kicking the western comic book industry’s candy a** in sales & interest from the consumer,’ one Twitter use said.
Other were pleased to hear the news of the rebrand.
Another said, ‘Woah, I guess Archie Comics is making Danni Malloy a trans woman. How about that! I think it’s cool, she was always a really cute character.’Â

This is just the latest classic character to go woke. In the most recent installment of DC comics in January, the Joker becomes pregnant and gives birth.
And back in February, newspaper comic strip Dilbert got cancelled for a racist rant online.
The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing’ sees Batman’s nemesis becomes pregnant after a curse is placed on him.
The Joker later ‘vomits a sort of brown goo’ that transforms into a baby boy, which ends up being mini version of the Joker.
The issue also shows another twisted scene where supervillain Atomic Skull gives Joker a prenatal pelvic exam.
‘The world once again holds its breath as The Joker strikes again! But how far is he willing to go this time?,’ wrote DC comics on their website hyping up the issue.
But many were far from enthusiastic about the new woke plot where a man gives birth.

Dilbert has featured in newspapers across 57 countries, and in 19 languages – and there are over 20 million Dilbert books and calendars in print
Meanwhile newspapers across the US dropped the ‘Dilbert’ comic strip after creator Scott Adams launched into a racist tirade advising his followers to ‘get the f**k’ away from black people.
Gannett, the largest newspaper publisher in the US, said it would stop publishing the comic immediately following the remarks made by its creator on his online show ‘Real Coffee with Scott Adams.’
Dilbert had already been canned by 77 newspapers in September due to its increasingly controversial plotlines, including one about a black character who identifies as white.
The comic has been in circulation since 1989 and frequently pokes fun at office culture.
Adams, who is believed to have amassed more than $70million from the Dilbert series, said in the livestreamed talk: ‘The best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from black people.
‘Just get the f**k away. Wherever you have to go, just get away.’
He added: ‘There’s no fixing this. This can’t be fixed… You just have to escape. So that’s what I did, I went to a neighborhood where I have a very low black population.’
The 65-year-old went on to label black people a ‘hate group,’ citing a poll that found nearly half of black people are not ok with white people.
