The organizers of a petition against having trans/non-binary performers in the Thanksgiving Day Parade say it is ‘quickly picking up momentum’ and want to hammer the message home with a boycott of the sponsor, Macy’s.
As of Wednesday morning, more than 29,000 people had inked the petition against the ‘non-binary and transgender extravaganza’ in the parade of floats and balloons, which will wow New York City on November 23.
Macy’s has not commented directly on the campaign, which takes aim at the appearance of trans/non-binary Broadway performers Justin David Sullivan and Alex Newell, among the parade’s cast of thousands.
Supporters of the campaign say they’re tired of liberal corporations flaunting a ‘woke’ agenda in their faces. Trans rights groups bemoan another conservative outfit ‘throwing a fit’ to rally people against LGBTQ+ rights.

Organizers now want people to boycott Macy’s, including its flagship store on Herald Square
Speaking exclusively with DailyMail.com, Monica Cole, director of One Million Moms, said her campaign is ‘picking up traction’ and urged consumers to go one step further by refusing to spend money at Macy’s.
Monica Cole says her Macy’s campaign is ‘picking up traction’
‘Conservatives have signed urging Macy’s to no longer push the LGBTQ agenda in the name of entertainment,’ Cole said in a statement.
‘By including non-binary performers, potentially exposing millions of viewers to this liberal nonsense, Macy’s is leaving conservative families with no other choice than to not watch this parade and no longer patronize their stores either.’
She accused Macy’s of ‘pushing the gay agenda during prime-time’ and said a holiday tradition that has delighted crowds along the parade route in Manhattan since 1924 was ‘no longer family-friendly.’
‘The petition warning will only gain speed as Thanksgiving Day approaches.’
Macy’s did not answer DailyMail.com’s requests for comment.
A spokesperson for the retailer issued a generic statement to other outlets.
They said the event would delight ‘Americans everywhere with the most popular music acts, the best of Broadway, our country’s finest marching bands and dance teams, and giant balloons and floats.’

The petition takes aim at Justin David Sullivan, a trans non-binary singer
Sullivan, a trans non-binary singer who uses ‘he/she/they’ pronouns, is understood to be appearing in the parade as a cast member of the Broadway musical, & Juliet, in which he plays the role of May, a non-binary character.
Sullivan did not answer our requests for comment.
Newell is gender nonconforming and uses he/she/they pronouns. She appeared as Unique Adams in the hit teen show Glee, and is slated to appear in the parade as a cast member of Shucked.
Social media users were quick to complain about Macy’s for bringing politics into a national holiday.
One user said the retailer was ‘playing woke politics with our traditions in front of our children.’
‘Cancel the credit card and don’t shop at Macy’s,’ posted another.
Another complained: ‘Macy’s Have you lost your collective minds???? Nobody wants a non-binary parade.’
But others tried to put the concern into a wider context — saying two non-binary performers would be hard to spot beneath the six-storey-high balloons of Snoopy, ‘Baby Yoda’ Grogu and other beloved characters.
Also in the crosshairs is Alex Newell, a biological male who presents as female and uses ‘all pronouns’
‘So two Broadway performers shouldn’t be in the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade because they are transgender?’ posted a user named Brian Smith.
‘Your kids wouldn’t even know if you didn’t tell them. We have to stop with the fake outrage.’
Pink News, a gay-friendly news site, called the petition ‘sensationalist’ and part of an ‘anti-trans backlash.’
It comes only days before transgender people mark their annual day of remembrance for victims of violence, on November 20.
Cole’s group is part of the American Family Association, a traditional group that says it has been ‘on the front lines of America’s culture war’ since it was created in 1977, through campaigns and boycotts.
Kim Petras was the first trans pop star to appear in the parade, back in 2021
The left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center calls them a ‘hate group’ due to their ‘anti-gay’ agenda.
Tie-ups between trans performers and corporations have proven divisive in recent months. Bud Light’s partnership with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney led to a backlash and boycott that cost the company millions.
The department store chain made $25.3 billion last year through its retail website, and hundreds of stores, including its flagship outlet in Herald Square, New York City, according to Forbes.
The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade has started the holiday season since 1924, pulling in more than 50 million television viewers as 3.5 million people line the 2.5-mile parade route through Manhattan.
The 2021 parade was the first to feature a transgender pop star, with German singer/songwriter Kim Petras performing her bubblegum number ‘I Don’t Want It At All.’
