These are all of Apple’s iOS 17 features NOT launching in September

Apple fans are just a few weeks away from getting their hands on the new iPhone 15 and operating system iOS 17 – but there are several major features that will not be available on launch.

Users can expect even more accurate autocorrect, live voicemail transcripts, customized wallpaper and more.

But on Apple’s website is fine print next to four of the anticipated features that read: ‘Coming later this year.’

These include AirDrop over the internet, an update to Apple Music and one app geared at mental health.

AirDrop over the Internet 

Apple introduced AirDrop in 2011 with its iOS 7, which lets users share and receive photos, documents, and more with other nearby Apple devices.

The updated version will let you share content with someone, but they no longer have to linger nearby in order to receive them.

You and the sender just have to be signed in to iCloud, and AirDrop will continue over the cellular internet.

Collaborative Apple Music playlists 

Apple will add an update to Apple Music that mirrors Spotify but allowing users to create shared playlists 

Apple Music is set to include Collaborative Playlists, a wish among many users.

Apple heard their pleas and announced the update in July, which will mirror that of Spotify by letting people create shared playlists with friends who can add, remove and reorder songs.

Journal App 

Journaling has become popular in recent years, as it lets people write down daily thoughts, feelings and aspirations – and Apple wants to let you carry it in the palm of your hand. 

This app allows users make notes about their day with pictures, music and locations.

Using on-device machine learning, your iPhone creates personalized suggestions of moments for you to remember and write about based on your photos, music, workouts and more. 

The software will analyze users’ behavior to determine a typical day, including how much time is spent at home compared with elsewhere and whether a particular day was unusual.  

NameDrop to Apple Watch

The days of being able to give the annoying guy at the bar a fake phone number may be over, thanks to Apple.

A Bluetooth connection between the two devices prompts NameDrop – and eliminates the need to type in their details manually, saving time.

However, Apple demonstrated NameDrop to the Apple Watch during the July unveiling, which is another delayed feature. 

Some iOS features launching next month 

Apple unveiled iOS 17 on June 5, which will include keyboard updates.

Many users have complained that their words are autocorrected incorrectly, but the new system adds a new language model that has a more accessible shortcut to go back to the original word if the system gets it wrong.

And now, dictation also uses a new AI-powered model.

Apple is also making a small but mighty change to Siri in the new iOS 17 – users can drop the ‘Hey’ and only need to say ‘Siri’ to activate the virtual assistant.

The change has been a sought-after feature of iOS fans, and it seems Apple has finally listened to their demand.

The tech giant has announced a new feature coming in iOS 17 called Check In. 

The tool will allow you to notify family members or friends when you’ve made it to a destination safely. 

And another feature will change the way iOS users end calls. 

While the end call button can currently be found in the center of the bottom of the screen, beta testers have revealed that this is set to change.

Following the update, the end call button will be moved to the bottom right of the screen.

iMessage apps will be stored in one place, typically above the texting area.
