Glenn’s audience is rallying around the victims of the devestating Maui wildfires.
The wildfire that raged across Maui became the deadliest fire in US history, claiming more than 100 lives as search-and-rescue missions continue throughout the burnt remains of the historic town, Lahaina. In times of profound tragedy, Genn’s audience has rallied around those enduring profound need and suffering through generous giving. On-air this week, Glenn rallied the troops again to support the grieving communities in Maui, challenging his audience to raise more money than the US government’s aid package.
And you are doing just that.
As of 8:52 p.m. on August 16th, YOU, Glenn’s audience, have raised $472,824.25 for the people of Maui via Glenn’s non-profit, Mercury One (M1). That’s nearly HALF A MILLION DOLLARS raised within the first day of Glenn’s call-to-action to match the government’s aid package, which has been raised to $2.3 million through FEMA. That means Glenn’s audience has raised ONE-FIFTH of the entire FEMA package this week alone.
YOU, Glenn’s audience, have raised $472,824.25 for the people of Maui.
ALL of these proceeds, every penny, minus credit card fees, will go towards the residents as they grieve and rebuild in the tough days ahead. Through your continued support, Mercury One is well on its way to surpassing the government package.
Here’s how YOUR gift is being used to bring relief in Maui RIGHT NOW.
Mercury One already has people on the ground in Maui using YOUR generous gift to give hope to the wildfire victims. Unlike the slow pace of government aid, your donation is being used NOW by M1 and their incredible partners, which includes Operation BBQ Relief, Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Blessing, ITDRC, and Harvest Church, which is pastored by Greg Laurie in California and has a sister Church in Maui.
In fact, Drew Friedrich, Chief Operating Officer of Operation Blessing, praised Mercury One as one of the first organizations on the ground to provide aid:
Mercury One has been a faithful partner to Operation Blessing, helping expand our reach and drive greater impact for families and individuals whose lives have been interrupted by disaster. When the terrible fires in Hawaii devastated Lahaina and Maui, Mercury One was one of the first to step up with financial support to help. We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and like-minded vision to deliver critical aid and resources to those in need.
Samaritan’s Purse reported how YOUR gift is being used on the ground RIGHT NOW:
Samaritan’s Purse is grateful for the generosity of Mercury One, which has helped us airlift 17 tons of supplies to Maui, Hawaii, in the wake of the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over 100 years. The supplies on that DC-8 cargo aircraft include hygiene kits, solar lights, cooking kits, plastic tarp, and equipment needed for us to help in the aftermath of this disaster. As residents are allowed to return to their communities, Samaritan’s Purse volunteers will help homeowners sift through the ashes for any sentimental keepsakes that may have survived the flames. Thanks to Mercury One for partnering with us to bring timely assistance to the people of Hawaii.
Similarly, Operation BBQ Relief, which provides mobile BBQ food trucks to feed first responders and victims during natural disasters, thanks YOU for your incredible generosity:
I could not be more thankful for the support of Mercury One and its donors. Your trust in Operation BBQ Relief and Mercury One will continue to allow us to make significant impacts on Maui. With all they are dealing with, a hot meal is one less thing they will have to worry about.
The Mercury One staff stepped up.
Shortly after Glenn announced the fundraiser on-air, Mercury One suffered an online hacking incident. However, due to the incredible efforts of their staff, the site is back up and running at full capacity with no damage to the fundraiser. As JP Decker, executive director for Mercury One, assures:
The attack on our website did not make us weaker but instead made us stronger. Our M1 staff is a family that is small but mighty, and when this happened, every single staff member stepped in and started to plan for answering phones etc., ready to take donations. When you give to specific initiatives with Mercury One, 100% of your donation, minus credit card fees, goes to that initiative. When you give to Mercury One, it enables Mercury One to have the means to respond quickly when a crisis occurs.
And YOU stepped up.
This isn’t the first time that Glenn’s audience has stepped up in times of desperate need, from raising $35 MILLION to fund evacuations out of Afghanistan when our government refused, to funding community projects, aid for persecuted Christians, and SO much more. YOU, Glenn’s audience, are truly giving light in a broken world.
When Glenn first started Mercury One, he said:
If we want the government to do less, we have to do more.
And that is exactly what YOU, through Mercury One have done. That’s what it’s all about: giving your neighbor hope, even in even the most hopeless situations.
As JP Decker says:
God is amazing, and what He alone has done with M1 is truly a miracle. What we did during the Afghanistan withdrawal, and what this [Glenn’s] audience and M1 donors can do when our fellow man needs help is truly remarkable.
M1 gives all the glory to God, who is our foundation and hope. We are honored and blessed to work with partners who stand for truth and believe that God is our only true Hope. We are blessed to be a part of what God is doing. There is hope, and Mercury One is here to restore Hope to the hopeless.
