BOSTON (TCD) — Police arrested a 37-year-old Medford man after a missing couple was found stabbed to death in a Boston storage unit.
On Friday, April 14, the Medford Police Department and Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office confirmed officials were investigating the disappearance of 37-year-old Kiryl Schukin and his husband, 28-year-old Pavel Vekshin. Some of their friends and co-workers reported the men missing April 9, but Medford Police said they had not been seen since March 30.
According to Medford Police and the District Attorney’s Office, investigators found Schukin and Vekshin’s bodies inside a storage unit in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood Sunday, April 16. Both men died from apparent stab wounds. District Attorney Marian Ryan announced in a Sunday press conference that Schukin was dismembered, while Vekshin’s body was located inside a rubber storage bin.
Leonid Volkov, 37, allegedly rented the storage unit using Vekshin or Schukin’s name.
Police arrested Volkov and said he knew both Vekshin and Schukin. Schukin reportedly signed on as a guarantor for Volkov’s apartment in Medford, but Schukin allegedly declined to co-sign again for the lease extension. As a result, Volkov got evicted from his apartment.
Volkov allegedly met up with Schukin March 29 in a rented U-Haul and could reportedly be seen going in and out of Schukin and Vekshin’s apartment building around the time they went missing. Investigators located the U-Haul van at the storage facility, according to the statement.
Ryan announced in the press conference Volkov has been charged with one count of murder, but she expects additional charges in the coming days.
