An Illinois man was busted for allegedly swiping a backhoe digger and driving it 10 miles to the airport to catch a flight, according to police.
Timothy Baggott, of Carbondale, allegedly parked the tractor-like ride at the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois on May 18 — then hopped out with a guitar case and hustled off to the terminal, according to security camera footage shared by police.
Baggott is accused of swiping the debris-hauling machine from semi-rural job site then ditching it in the airport parking lot, prompting a call to police about the “suspicious’ ‘ vehicle, the Williamson County Sheriffs Office said in a Facebook post Tuesday.
The owner of the backhoe arrived at the airport shortly after and claimed it, according to police.

Baggott was charged with a felony count of theft in excess of $10,000, the sheriff’s office said.
Observers cracked jokes about the hillbilly-style ride on the sheriff’s Facebook page, writing, “Now that’s redneck” and “You can’t even make this up.”
“He even put the buckets down…good operator,” one commenter wrote.
