The Issue: Biden administration plans to require more than two-thirds of new cars to be electric in 10 years.
It used to be that when someone mentioned the “BBB,” I thought of the Better Business Bureau (“EV Mandate: Pro-China, Anti-Worker,” Editorial, April 17).
Not anymore. Now I think of “Big Brother Biden.”
Joey tells you that you need to drive an electric car.
Joey tells you that you need to heat your home with electricity.
Joey tells you that you need to cook your food with electric stoves.
Joey tells you that fossil fuels are bad and we need electric to save the planet.
Joey doesn’t tell you that without fossil fuels, we won’t have enough electricity for our current needs.
Joey doesn’t tell you that even if we had the electricity needed to power everything, we don’t have the electric grid needed to supply it.
Joey might be a lot better off if he knew what he was saying before he said it. Sadly, he doesn’t.
There’s no guarantee that EVs will ever be affordable for most drivers.
This mandate hurts the very people Democrats claim to care about.
It plays right into the hands of China as that nation becomes more powerful and threatens us and our allies.
Democrats are determined to ignore a large segment of the public in order to please their radical base, and are doing it through a totally un-democratic decree.
Gary Mottola, Brooklyn
The Biden administration is so driven by the green movement that costs or results are immaterial.
Proposed regulations just about force the auto industry to go all-out on EVs — no matter that, with other countries continuing the construction of coal-fired plants, the effects on our planet will be minimal.
An alternate approach, which would reduce gasoline usage to a great extent, would be converting to hybrid vehicles such as the Toyota Prius.
This would also eliminate the huge cost of establishing charging stations everywhere.
The Biden EPA escalating restrictions on tailpipe emissions is a thinly veiled attempt to reduce our transportation options to an electric monopoly.
Americans thought that they were voting for a “pro-choice” candidate, but ended up with a cruel tyrant’s bait-and-switch.
The Issue: A man who was shot outside Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie’s Bronx offices on Monday.
Isn’t it ironic that on the day the House Judiciary Committee convened a field hearing concerning Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a man is shot in the head outside of Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie’s office — another progressive, criminal-loving politician (“Hits close to home,” April 18)?
Crime has skyrocketed since Bragg assumed the reins of the district attorney’s office.
The carnage will undoubtedly continue with the likes of Bragg and Heastie in control.
Sadly, just like death and taxes are a certainty, seemingly so is putrid political leadership in New York state.
This city is completely out of order. A man was shot in front of Heastie’s office.
Bragg should not be letting these repeat offenders out of jail.
Then you have Mayor Adams playing around with NYPD robots. What is being done about the rise in shootings and crime?
There’s no doubt Adams is losing control of this city.
This is not going to go away, and we’ll have more shootings and crime in the city until these lawmakers wake up and start making our city safe again.
