A 5-year-old girl was shot while sitting in a car in the Bronx Friday night during a vigil for a man who was gunned down a day earlier, police and sources said.
The girl was inside a vehicle near East 213 Street and White Plains Road when three or four suspects opened fire just after 7 p.m., according to the NYPD and sources.
One of the bullets struck the child in the back, cops said. She was taken to Montefiore Hospital in critical condition and will undergo surgery.
The gunfire erupted at a memorial for a 26-year-old man who was fatally shot near the same intersection early Thursday morning, sources said.
A beige Nissan with a single bullet hole through its trunk was surrounded by police tape and several NYPD officers at the scene.
An abandoned child’s shoe sat in the street nearby.
Police are canvassing the area for footage of the shooting.
In the Thursday shooting, the man who died suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and shoulder, according to police.
A 34-year-old man was also shot in the same incident. He was taken by EMS to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition, police said.
No arrests have been made in either shootings.
