MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) — Law enforcement officials positively identified the remains found in a rural area as a 26-year-old woman who went missing in 2021.
According to the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, Olivia Fowler was reported missing Aug. 14, 2021, after she was last seen the day before at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Pebblebrook Road. In December 2022, officials searching a rural area received an alert about the discovery of possible human remains. Officials collected the remains and sent them to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab to be positively identified.
In an update last week, the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office announced DNA testing matched the remains to Fowler. The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into her disappearance and death remains ongoing.
Sheriff Chuck Smith said in the press release, “Our focus now is to allow the family to grieve. The family request that they be allowed to properly grieve this recent news and to be supportive of them during this difficult time. The family would like the public to know that Olivia was not only a mother, but a daughter, a sister, a grandchild, and an important member of the Fowler family.”
