LOS ANGELES (TCD) — A 62-year-old former pediatrician faces a maximum sentence of two decades in federal prison after pleading guilty this week to possessing child sexual abuse material.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, in August 2021, Gary David Goulin intentionally received child sexual abuse material and possessed more than 600 images that he “knew constituted child pornography.” Some of the images “showed children engaging in sadistic or masochistic conduct.”
In November 2021, Goulin knowingly possessed four DVDs depicting child sexual abuse victims under 12 years old. He reportedly owned another 57 DVDs that contained child sexual abuse material with an average run time of approximately three hours and 21 minutes.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Goulin was charged in Los Angeles Superior court with possession of child pornography and sexual exploitation of a child, but the case was dismissed. In October 2022, a grand jury indicted him on federal charges.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday, April 26, that Goulin pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, and he must register as a sex offender. Goulin is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 13 and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
