DALLAS (TCD) — A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend last week after she traveled out of state to get an abortion.
According to an affidavit, on May 10, Dallas Police responded to a shooting call at 820 S. Walton Walker Blvd. and found the victim, Gabriella Gonzalez, deceased from a gunshot wound. Gonzalez’s sister told police she saw Gonzalez and the suspect, Harold Thompson, walking together, which she found “odd” because Gonzalez was in a rental car. After Gonzalez and Thompson walked by her, she reportedly heard a gunshot and saw her sister on the ground.
A second witness reportedly told Dallas Police they allegedly saw Thompson put Gonzalez in a chokehold and tried to help, but they could not call police because they did not have their phone.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Thompson attempting to choke Gonzalez, but she “shrugs him off.” The two continued to walk through a parking lot, then Thompson allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Gonzalez in the head. He reportedly fired several additional shots after that.
Thompson fled the scene but was arrested after police executed a search warrant. Dallas County Jail records show he’s being held without bond on charges of murder and assault impeding breath/circulation.
Police learned Gonzalez traveled to Colorado to get an abortion and returned to Dallas on May 9. Thompson was reportedly the father of the child and he allegedly did not want her to get an abortion.
NBC DFW reports the shooting occurred at a gas station around 7:30 a.m.
Gonzalez’s sister told the news station Gonzalez and Thompson had been in a relationship for about four months, but Gonzalez “wasn’t OK.”
Thompson was reportedly accused of domestic violence against Gonzalez and there was a warrant out for his arrest.
The sister said, “He was so angry that she wanted to get away from him. She would always tell me that she wanted to leave, but that she couldn’t.”
Gonzalez, 26, reportedly was the mother of three children.
