A 6-year-old boy was shot dead while playing videogames in his bedroom after a group of suspects fired several rounds at his Lynchburg, Va. home Monday night.
Little Kingston Campbell was shot in the head while paying a game on his bed at around 11:12 p.m. and died at the scene, according to police and family members.
His mother said her youngest child and only son was killed in front of his two sisters in a statement obtained by local NBC affiliate station 10 News.
“To know someone could be so careless and do that to him breaks my heart,” the grieving mom Shay Fowler said.
Surveillance footage obtained by police shows multiple gunmen fire several shots at Kingston’s home on Floyd Street before running off towards 17th Street.
None of the suspects have been arrested and Lynchburg police are asking for the public’s help identifying the shooters.
“The murder of this child is a senseless tragedy stemming from a violent criminal act that has no place in our community,” the Lynchburg Police Department said in a statement.
Fowler said her son was killed doing one of his favorite pastimes.
“Kingston loved videogames and electronics,” she said. “I mean this kid would literally sneak and be up on his Nintendo Switch at late night hours just so he can play Fortnite or Roblox.”
Fowler said her son loved playing videogames, snuggling stuffed animals, singing with his “beautiful voice” and making others laugh with his silly dance moves.
He begged to go to McDonald’s for a Happy Meal nearly everyday and would pray over dinner for the family.
“Kingston had me wrapped around his little finger,” she said. “He was my weakness. My only son. My youngest child. I will never be the same again.”
Fowler also said Kingston had a beautiful voice at just 6 years old and knew he was now with god “singing his big heart out.”
“I’m hurt that it had to be my child but I pray that no one else has to go through this pain that I have to,” the distraught mom said in the statement. “It’s going to be a struggle and a long journey ahead for me and my girls… We will forever carry Kingston Ah’mon Campbell with us.”
