A coach bus carrying migrants crashed on a highway this week in Mexico, killing at least 17 and injuring dozens more, according to authorities.
The tragedy unfolded at around 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon in the Mexican state of Puebla.
A private transport operated by Tours Turisticos Medina was on its way from Tapachula to Mexico City when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned.
Police arrived to discover 15 dead at the scene and roughly the same number requiring urgent medical attention, Puebla Secretary of Government Julio Miguel Huerta explained during a press conference on Monday.

The injured were transported to local hospitals, where at least two more succumbed to their injuries.
Many of the victims were found to be U.S.-bound migrants from South and Central America, officials say.
“A 56-year-old Colombian man was among the dead, Colombia’s foreign ministry said in a statement. The survivors included two men and a woman also from Colombia who were hospitalized in Puebla, and an uninjured man who was turned over to migration authorities in the neighboring state of Oaxaca,” Reuters reports.
An investigation is ongoing.
Last week, at least 39 people perished when a bus carrying more than 60 migrants plunged off a cliff in Panama.
In December of 2021, more than 50 people died when a tractor-trailer loaded with nearly 200 migrants crashed in southern Mexico.
