Six-time Grammy nominee Tupac ‘2Pac’ Shakur’s younger half-sister Sekyiwa ‘Set’ Shakur teared up while delivering an emotional speech at his posthumous Hollywood Walk of Fame induction in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
The 47-year-old president-CEO of Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation was four years younger than the Harlem-born rap legend who died, age 25, in 1996 six days after being shot four times by an unknown assassin during a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.
Out of the 30 stars selected each year, only one posthumous star (with a two-year waiting period after death) is given out by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and Tupac’s 2,758th star is located near Amoeba Music at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard.
‘It fills my heart with honor to stand here today representing the Shakur family,’ said Set while trying to hold back her tears.
‘Tupac knew deep down that he was always meant for something great. And as his little sister, I had the privilege to watch that greatness unfold. From the first time he stepped foot on the stage of the Apollo Theater at 13 years old, before anyone recognized his name, he knew he had the dream to have a star here on the Walk of Fame.’

Skakur continued: ‘And now we gather here today to unveil Tupac’s star – not only a tribute to his contribution in the music industry but also it speaks volumes to the lasting impact he’s had on this world.
‘Today we’re not just honoring a star on the ground, but we’re honoring the work and the passion that he’s put into making his dreams come true. His heavenly star will shine a little brighter today. Once again, he has made us all extremely proud. We love you Tupac.’
The activist mother-of-three shared the same mother, Afeni Shakur, as the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and still cherishes one of his jackets and a Rolex watch she kept.
Grammy-nominated rapper YG was also in attendance and he paid due reverence to his fallen idol by holding up the large photograph of him and posing in front of his star, which requires a $250 application fee and $75K sponsorship fee.
Hundreds of fans lined up along Hollywood Boulevard to witness the ceremony in honor of Tupac (born born Lesane Parish Crooks), who sold over 75M records worldwide despite only releasing four albums in a five-year span ending 1996.
iHeartRadio host Big Boy emceed the ceremony, which featured speakers like Tupac Shakur Legacy author Jamal Joseph and Dear Mama director Allen Hughes, whose five-part FX docuseries on Tupac debuted last month.
Missing from the festivities was the Poetic Justice actor’s father Billy Garland, who claimed Allen Hughes tricked him into being interviewed for Dear Mama.
Billy also told The Art of Dialogue on Tuesday that ‘someone’ told Tupac that he was dead, which made their reunion later on awkward considering he had rapped on his song Dear Mama: ‘No love for my daddy / ’cause the coward wasn’t there / He passed away and I didn’t cry.’

Garland said he now thinks the song is ‘beautiful’ and listens to his son’s music every day.

It’s described as ‘a moving exploration of Tupac’s life and legacy, illustrated with photos, mementos, handwritten poetry, and much more.’
