Charity Lawson started crying after The Bachelor host Jesse Palmer informed her on Tuesday’s episode that she was going to be the next star of The Bachelorette.
Jesse, 44, surprised Charity, 26, a child and family therapist from Columbus, Georgia, in her dressing room after the two-hour The Women Tell All episode on ABC.
He told her they were just filming a ‘This or That’ game for social media and proceeded to ask her some rapid fire questions.
‘Camping or glamping?’ Jesse asked.
‘Neither but clamping,’ Charity said laughing.

‘Bachelor in Paradise or The Bachelorette?’ Jesse asked.
‘Goodness gracious, let’s say Bachelorette,’ Charity said.
‘Are you good with that?’ Jesse asked.
‘Yeah,’ Charity said. ‘What? Is that a wrong answer?’
Jesse just stared at her.
‘You think Bachelorette’s the one?’ Jesse said.
‘Yeah,’ Charity said.
‘Well, I’m glad you said that because Charity… ,’ Jesse said.
Social media: Jesse told Charity that they were filming a ‘This Or That’ game for social media and proceeded to ask her rapid-fire questions
Right answer:Â ‘Goodness gracious, let’s say Bachelorette,’ Charity said
Making sure:Â ‘Are you good with that?’ Jesse asked after Charity gave her answer
‘No,’ shocked Charity said as she realized what was happening.
‘I want you to be our next Bachelorette,’ Jesse said.
‘Is this for real?’ Charity said. ‘No way. Is this for real right now? Oh my god I want to cry.’
‘This is totally real,’ Jesse said.
‘Are you kidding?’ Charity said.
‘Charity this is happening,’ Jesse said.
Charity said she was going to cry.
‘Is that a yes?’ Jesse said.
For real:Â ‘Is this for real?’ Charity said. ‘No way. Is this for real right now? Oh my god I want to cry’
‘It’s a yes absolutely!’ Charity said. ‘One-hundred percent.’
Charity started crying and called her mother to tell her the news.
‘Mom, I’m crying right now,’ Charity said.
‘I can’t wait to show little girls that look like me that being in a position like this is possible,’ Charity said in a confessional. ‘I know that I’ll be making a lot of people proud.’
When the season 27 episode started, Jesse replayed scenes from the women’s emotional time on the show with Zach aka the ‘boring Bachelor’.Â
Jesse then asked Brooklyn Willie, 25, a rodeo racer from Stillwater, Oklahoma, what was it about Christina Mandrell, 26, a content creator from Nashville, that rubbed her the wrong way.
‘Her words and actions were kind of calculated, manipulative, and like she was trying to intimidate us,’ Brooklyn said.
‘Christina sucked the energy up in any room she went to,’ Katherine Izzo, 26, a registered nurse from Tampa, Florida, said.

Katherine said Christina just made everyone uncomfortable.
‘I probably could have shut the f*** a little bit more,’ Christina admitted. ‘But what my mind wanted to do was do more, make sure people understand my intentions and that I am being nice but I just …I didn’t know what to do, and it felt like everything I did was just the wrong thing.’
Jesse then talked to Anastasia Keramidas, 30, a content marketing manager from San Diego. Zach earlier during the season questioned if Anastasia was there to boost her social media and Anastasia said it wasn’t true.
‘We both have mutual friends and I was told that you explicitly said that you were only going on this show as a business opportunity,’ claimed Victoria Jameson, 30, a makeup artist from Fort Worth, Texas. ‘I literally have the receipts.’
‘I’ve seen the receipts,’ Catherine ‘Cat’ Wong, 26, a dancer from New York City, said. ‘You had a boyfriend on the show.’
‘What?’ Jesse said.
‘You called him in the Bahamas when you got your phone back,’ Cat said.
Anastasia denied it.
Viewing party: Zach attended a viewing party where fans held up masks of his face
‘Keep lying Anastasia, maybe you will hit the 50k [followers] you want so bad,’ Victoria hissed.
‘I don’t appreciate being lied about,’ Anastasia said.
Kylee Russell, 25, a postpartum nurse from Charlotte, North Carolina, jumped in and said she was offended when Anastasia made comments on the show that she had wanted to fight her.
‘At the end of the day, I was just trying to further my relationship with him and unlike you was there for the right reasons,’ Kylee said.
Genevieve Mayo, 26, a neonatal nurse from Baltimore, showed solidarity with the other women of color on the show.
‘Everyday we deal with the stereotype of being aggressive people,’ Genevieve said. ‘And we deal with these very harsh micro aggressions, which for anybody that doesn’t know, are extremely subtle.’
Genevieve said she thought it was insane that Anastasia knowing Kylee ‘would use that and try to propel that stereotype.’
‘You could have let that go. Instead, you went around to the whole group and made it a thing that it wasn’t,’ Genevieve said.
Not appreciated:Â ‘I don’t appreciate being lied about,’ Anastasia said
Aggressive stereotype:Â ‘Everyday we deal with the stereotype of being aggressive people,’ Genevieve said. ‘And we deal with these very harsh micro aggressions, which for anybody that doesn’t know, are extremely subtle’
Anastasia apologized to Kylee and said she was sorry for anything she did that made her feel uncomfortable. Ultimately, Kylee accepted her apology.
Jesse then asked Jessica ‘Jess’ Girod, 23, an e-commerce coordinator from Winter Springs, Florida, to talk about her abrupt departure because she didn’t feel that Zach fought for her.
‘Just felt so misunderstood,’ Jess said. ‘At the end of the day, I just wanted a date, I just wanted time and it didn’t feel like what I was trying to say was coming across to him and he wasn’t understanding.’
Jess said she was proud of how she handled her breakup.
‘I know what I deserve and it’s way more than that,’ Jess said.
Jesse then spoke to Greer Blitzer, 24, a medical sales rep from Houston, about her journey on the show, testing positive for COVID and then leaving Budapest in tears. Greer said she was hoping she would have a chance to spend more time with Zach.
Jesse then asked Greer about the controversy over some troubling social media posts from her past.
‘Most disturbing of all was your defending a fellow classmate that posed in blackface,’ Jesse said. ‘The truth is that as a franchise we have done a very poor job in the past of addressing serious topics head-on and we are not going to miss that opportunity here tonight.’
Apology accepted:Â Ultimately, Kylee accepted an apology from Anastasia

Jesse then gave Greer a chance to address it.
‘What I failed to mention in my apology was that what happened was racist,’ Greer said. ‘It’s not about the intent. It’s about the impact. This acquaintance of mine that I knew performing in blackface was racist. Me defending it was racist. My ignorance was racist. And I’m just so ashamed. I’m just deeply sorry that I hurt the Black community.’
Greer said all she could do was try and do better. Greer said she also did research into the origins of blackface.
‘It was a symbolism for dehumanizing the Black community,’ Greer said. ‘What I said was wrong. Defending that girl was racist and I want to take accountability.’
Jesse then brought up Katherine who said the show had been hard to watch because she thought that Zach was her person.
‘Him giving up right before Hometowns made me feel like I was not good enough again,’ Katherine said. ‘I still don’t know what shifted.’
On the positive side, Katherine said that the show has helped her start to build a healthy relationship with her mother.
Jesse then spoke to Charity and played back her experience on the show that brought her to tears. Charity said she was falling in love with Zach and then felt blindsided. She said she was more ready to find her person.

Zach came out and told Charity that letting her go was hard. He also told Jess he couldn’t convey to her at the time that he really liked her.
The show played bloopers from the season, including one scene where Zach gave a woman a glass of what he called ‘mold wine.’
‘Mold wine, which sounds really gross, but believe it or not it’s delicious,’ Zach said later in a confessional.
A producer then explained to him it was ‘mulled wine’ and not ‘mold wine.’
‘I thought this entire time it was M-O-L-D wine,’ Zach said.
The Bachelor will return next Monday on ABC.
