Robert De Niro looked sharp at the Killers Of The Flower Moon premiere during the 76th annual Cannes Film Festival in France on Saturday.

The 79-year-old movie legend – who recently announced the birth of his seventh child – stepped out on the red carpet in a black suit and tie alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, 48, and Martin Scorsese, 80.

The film explores the harrowing true story of the ‘reign of terror’ that left two dozen Native Americans dead. The blockbuster is based on the 2017 non-fiction book of the same name written by David Grann.

Set in the 1920s, it centers on the FBI’s investigation into a string of murders after several members of the Osage tribe in Oklahoma were slaughtered.

Killers of the Flower Moon focuses on the American history involving the Osage tribe who became wealthy after oil was discovered beneath their land, earning them more than $30 million in annual revenue at the peak of the boom, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society.

New child, new film: The film explores the harrowing true story of the ‘reign of terror’ that left two dozen Native Americans dead. Killers of the Flower Moon tells the story of the Osage tribe who became wealthy after oil was discovered beneath their land, earning them more than $30 million in annual revenue

Subsurface minerals within the Osage Nation Reservation were tribally owned and held in trust by the government.

Mineral leases earned royalties that were paid to the tribe as a whole – with each allottee receiving one equal share also known as a headright that could only legally be attained by outsiders if they married into the tribe.

It was during this time that rancher William K. Hale (De Niro) a native of Greenville, Texas, encouraged his subservient nephew Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio) to wed Osage member Mollie Kyle (later Mollie Burkhart).

The plot is centered around Hale convincing his weak-willed nephew Burkhart to marry one of the daughters in the tribe in a plot to eventually murder them and inherit their wealth from oil.

The trailer was released on Thursday and shows their courtship as Burkhart becomes romantically involved with Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone).

Things take a darker turn in several short scenes shown, including Burkhart comforting Kyle’s lifeless body, a stabbing, and a shot in the courtroom of Hale sitting next to his attorney W.S. Hamilton who is played by Brendan Fraser.

In another interesting scene, Burkhart is interrogated by law enforcement officer Tom White (Jesse Plemons) in a very intense exchange.

The film is set for a limited release in select cinemas on October 6, with a wider release in the US on October 20 by Paramount Pictures. It will eventually have a streaming release on Apple TV+.

He’s back: The highly-anticipated first trailer was released on Thursday. This marks DiCaprio ‘s return to the big screen since his 2019 film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

The premiere comes two weeks after De Niro announced he had welcomed a baby with his martial arts instructor girlfriend Tiffany Chen.

Robert has two kids: Drena, 51, and Raphael, 46 with his ex wife Diahnne Abbott.

And he has two more children with Grace Hightower: Elliot, 25, and Helen, 11.

He is also a dad to twins Aaron and Julian, 27, with former girlfriend, Toukie Smith.

The Godfather star previously split from his wife of 20 years, Hightower, in 2018.

Robert and Grace were married in 1997, split in 1999, then got back together, renewed their vows in 2004 before he filed for divorce in 2018.

Initially the pair fought over custody of their child but now the arguments are over money and property.

Hightower’s average monthly spend was $215,000 a month on credit cards and $160,000 in cash.

De Niro’s attorney, Caroline Krauss, claims the financial strain means the actor is running out of money. She said the coronavirus pandemic led to a drying up of work projects for the Hollywood star.

Months earlier, De Niro earned $5million for acting in Martin Scorsese’s hit gangster flick, The Irishman.

He also received ‘tens of millions of dollars’ through a federal coronavirus relief program.

Hightower claims that De Niro is worth $500million, but his attorney Caroline Krauss says that his estranged wife’s extravagant lifestyle is making things worse.

‘Grace and I have two beautiful children together. We are entering a period of transition in our relationship which is a difficult but constructive process. I honor Grace as a wonderful mother and ask for privacy and respect from all as we proceed to develop our roles as partners in parenting,’ he said in 2018.
