Matthew McConaughey giddily trolls Jason Bateman during his ‘mortifying meltdown’ on podcast due to technical difficulties: ‘I’m in a tailspin!’

SmartLess co-host Jason Bateman was left red-faced on Monday after hearing back his ‘mortifying full-tilt meltdown’ due to technical difficulties during a taping of his Wondery podcast from two years earlier.

Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey – who was the secret guest at the time – quietly spent 30 minutes listening to the chaos stemming from the 54-year-old former child star cloning his computer on to his daughter’s laptop without ‘installing the drivers.’

‘It’s not. I don’t see it here on the sound thing, so let’s cancel. Let’s reschedule this thing,’ Jason scoffed in the recording.

‘I’m in a total f***ing tailspin!’

At that, the 53-year-old Texan began laughing hysterically, which only further enraged Bateman, who replied: ‘Great. Who the f*** is that? Great, that’s helpful.’

‘Let me tell you what I’ve heard here over the last 30 minutes,’ Matthew responded, revealing his identity.

‘”Uh we gotta reboot here. His iPad got cloned and then it got wiped right before the dog peed on it. So I gotta reboot one more time. Wait a minute, it’s buffering. Wait, let me reinstall. No, I’m installed. I’m just gonna restart.

“We got a failure. I need a security check. Oh s***, we got a virus. Let me reschedule this whole show. You know what? You guys start without me. F*** that! Everyone be patient. Oh s*** what are we going to do? I’m in a total f***ing tailspin.”‘

McConaughey continued: ‘All of that while you still had a sandwich in your hand had been really entertaining, but not as entertaining as watching f***ing Bateman over here mentally midgetating on this s***. “F*** it, I’m in a tailspin.” I’m in a tailspin! [laughs]’

On Monday, SmartLess co-host Will Arnett recalled: ‘What we didn’t know – none of us knew – when Bateman finally rage quit, as we say in the in the video gaming world, he finally rage quit and he was gone. And then Matthew rips his camera off and he starts laughing. And [co-host Sean Hayes] is going, “Matthew I didn’t know it was you!” And McConaughey had written it all down like a court reporter!’

Jason – who had just lost a game of golf – went on to say it was ‘mortifying’ when he finally realized he’d been berating the laughing Agent Elvis producer-star.

‘The worst part is me hearing somebody laughing thinking it’s Will or Sean and going, “Who did that?! That’s not helpful!” And then I just slammed my laptop shut, took my ball, and went home like a b****,’ Bateman recalled.

‘It’s not one of my prouder moments…I was like goddamn it. And the fact that it was you laughing and that I actually inadvertently yelled at you and slammed the laptop on you!’

Revealing his identity, Matthew read back everything he’d written the trio said, calling it ‘high quality entertainment’ watching ‘f***ing Bateman over here mentally midgetating on this s***. “F*** it, I’m in a tailspin.” I’m in a tailspin! [laughs]’

Matthew – who returned to the podcast on Monday – said the entire incident was ‘high quality entertainment.’

‘You were going on and on and it went so long I was like, “This is getting funnier and funnier and funnier!’ McConaughey said.

The Emmy-winning Ozark director apologized for being ‘dumb and hot-headed’ sarcastically calling it ‘a great combo.’

The Austin FC minority owner added: ‘Dude, you were tardy, dumb, and hot-headed.’

Jason replied: ‘Tardy too, oh, well listen Matthew. I mean, the fact that you’ve come back after that absolute wipeout, I can’t thank you enough. I mean, you’re the greatest.’
