Jason Sudeikis confirms Ted Lasso WILL end with season three… but he’s open to spin-offs of hit Apple TV+ show: ‘We’ve set the table for all sorts of folks’

A week after the trailer dropped, Ted Lasso co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis announced that the third season of his critically-acclaimed football comedy – premiering March 15 on Apple TV+ – will be the last.

‘This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell,’ the Virginia-born, Kansas-raised 47-year-old told Deadline on Monday.

‘The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet – that being season three – it’s flattering. Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, “Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.” But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far.’

This, after Jason (born Daniel) signed a $1M/per episode deal to reprise his role as American amateur AFC Richmond coach in season three – according to THR.

Sudeikis is definitely open to the idea of a spin-off starring castmates such as Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Phil Dunster, or Jeremy Swift.

The Virginia-born, Kansas-raised 47-year-old told Deadline on Monday: ‘This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell. The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet – that being season three – it’s flattering’

‘Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories,’ the four-time Emmy winner said.

‘Again, I can’t help but take the question as flattery for what all of us that were working on the show has tried to do. It’s really kind of folks to even consider that because you never know what’s gonna happen when you make things. The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue is lovely.’

Fans are hoping for a satisfying resolution after the stunning betrayal of AFC Richmond kit man-turned-assistant coach Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammed), who’s now the head coach at rival team West Ham United.

It was even more devious considering West Ham United owner Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head) was clearly attempting to hurt his ex-wife Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), who owns AFC Richmond.

One bright moment from the trailer showed Ted – who battled panic attacks in the first two seasons – finally receiving a much-needed visit from his son Henry (Gus Turner) with ex-wife Michelle (Andrea Anders).

Jason will also play an unpredictable director in Charlie Day’s feature directorial debut Fool’s Paradise – hitting US theaters May 12 – alongside Ray Liotta, Ken Jeong, Kate Beckinsale, Adrien Brody, Common, Edie Falco, John Malkovich, and Jason Bateman.

The Roadside Attractions comedy centers on ‘a down-on-his-luck publicist (Jeong) discovering a man recently released from a mental health facility (Day) who looks just like a method actor refusing to leave his trailer.’

And last month, Hulu renewed Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, in which Sudeikis voices a Japanese snow monkey’s (Fred Tatasciore) ghostly hitman mentor Bryce, for a second season.
