Jake Gyllenhaal, 42, reveals he would ‘love to have a family’ with girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu, 27, while making a rare remark on their ‘wonderful’ five-year romance

Jake Gyllenhaal made a rare remark on his ‘wonderful’ relationship with Jeanne Cadieu while promoting his first children’s book, The Secret Society of Aunts and Uncles. 

In his latest interview, the Ambulance star gushed about his close relationship to his nieces Ramona, 16, and Gloria, 11, have inspired him to want have a family of his own.

 ‘I would love to have a family, and if it’s anything like the family that my sister’s raised and has cultivated, I would be proud,’ he said, referring to his older sister Maggie Gyllenhaal and her husband Peter Sarsgaard’s household. 

The Oscar nominee, 42, also described his bond with Maggie’s girls as ‘one of the most important’ connections in his life. 

While speaking about Cadieu, 27, Jake acknowledged that ‘it’s no secret that’ he’s in a relationship. 

‘It’s a wonderful relationship,’ he gushed. ‘We are private, but I guess we are who we are. We’re just living our lives. We always have.’

Jake added: ‘I love that people are interested, but at the same time, it’s like what’s ours is ours.’ 

The performer noted that he values ‘growing together and listening and being open’ in both his platonic and romantic relationships.

In February, the actor revealed that his relationship is ‘full of love and support.’

‘In a lot of ways, we’re family,’ he said in an interview with Esquire. ‘I feel so at ease.’ 

The Nightcrawler actor has been linked to Jeanne since late 2018. The couple tends to keep their relationship out of the spotlight, only making their red carpet debut in September 2021. 

During the height of the pandemic, Jake shared that he stayed at his godmother Jamie Lee Curtis’ guesthouse in Los Angeles.

He even went into detail about how during the lockdown, he ventured into new hobbies and learned how to make sourdough bread. 

He talked about his holidays, sharing that he spent Hanukkah with his sister and his brother-in-law Peter Sarsgaard, who brought along his nieces.

Jake makes sure that his family and loved ones take priority in his life, even over his impressive acting career.

‘It’s my family, my friends, and the people I love who take priority,’ he continued, ‘and not, I hate to say it, the career. And maybe that’s me saying they didn’t always.’

At the time, he also broke his silence on the extended version of his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s song All Too Well, which is speculated to be about their short-lived romance during the fall of 2010.

‘It’s no secret that I’m in a relationship and it’s a wonderful relationship,’ he said. ‘We are private, but I guess we are who we are. We’re just living our lives. We always have. And I love that people are interested, but at the same time, it’s like what’s ours is ours’

‘It has nothing to do with me. It’s about her relationship with her fans. It is her expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don’t begrudge anyone that,’ he insisted. 

The Oscar-nominated actor is aware that the public takes interest in his life, but he still remains very private and doesn’t let it effect him.

‘My life is wonderful. I have a relationship that is truly wonderful, and I have a family I love so much,’ he said during the interview. ‘And this whole period of time has made me realize that.’

Over the years, he has previously been romantically linked to Kirsten Dunst, Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon, Minka Kelly and Alyssa Miller.
