‘He is a fantastic writer!’: Florence Pugh gushes over ex Zach Braff as she promotes their film while adding cutting her hair off for a scene was a ‘nightmare’

Florence Pugh seems to have no bad feelings for her ex-boyfriend Zach Braff.

During a sit down interview with Lara Spencer on Good Morning America on Wednesday, the British star called Braff ‘a fantastic writer’ as they worked together on the new film A Good Person.

The actors broke up in 2022 after dating for three years. 

And she also has admiration for her costars Morgan Freeman, who plays her mentor, and Molly Shannon, who stars as her mother. The Little Women star called them the ‘greats’ of acting. 

A Good Person opens in theaters in the US on Friday.

The film follows Allison (Florence), whose world crumbles in the blink of an eye when she survives an unimaginable tragedy, emerging from recovery with opioid addiction and unresolved grief.

Eventually, she forms an unlikely friendship with her would-be father-in-law (Freeman), which gives her a fighting chance to put her life back together and move forward.

As far as working with Freeman, she said she felt lucky for the opportunity. And their characters meshed well. ‘It is an unexpected friendship but it is deeply needed,’ she said of her screen relationship with Freeman’s character.

‘She needs him as much as he needs her,’ she said after looking at a clip of their dramatic scene for the movie.

She said he is ‘one of the greats.’

Her character is an opioid addict who goes to AA.

‘It is a sensitive, dark and sad topic but there are moments of levity and Zach has written a fantastic script and it mentions how we deal in times of sadness,’ she said.

Pugh said of Molly Shannon that she is also a great; the comedienne plays her mother. ‘It’s mad, it’s a bonkers household,’ she said of her screen family.

In the movie they had a fight and she said it just works because they are about the same size and both were keen to ‘really go at it, yeah we fight.’

Florence said she really got into the fight and Shannon pushed for it to go harder, saying she was ‘stocky and feisty’ and she loved fighting with her.

They had to wear pads because they fought so hard. 

Pugh also spoke with Spencer on why she felt it was important to cut her hair for A Good Person.

Vital: ‘It was important for the audience to see she was a changed and different woman and that she is literally chopping pieces of herself off and in some way it gets all the vanity out the window…. she is at rock bottom… it was important as a performer and for the audience to see she is a changed person,’ she shared

The star added the scheduling of cutting her hair was a ‘nightmare’ because her hair hat to be cut at the right time in shooting.

She told him to ‘figure it out.’

Pugh also said that her parents buy multiple copies of all her press coverage.

As far as Dune 2 she said that she wrapped her scenes ‘ages ago’ but she could share ‘absolutely nothing’ about the movie.

But she did end up saying she was ‘proud and excited to be a part of the world.’
