Foo Fighters announce upcoming release of new album… over a year after drummer Taylor Hawkins suddenly passed away on tour

Foo Fighters will soon be releasing their first album since the passing of their longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, as announced by their record label.

The upcoming album is titled But Here We Are and is set to be released on June 2 — over a year after Hawkins tragically and suddenly died at the age of 50 while the group was on tour.

According to the press release, the band’s 11th studio album is a ‘brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything Foo Fighters endured over the last year.’ 

Earlier last week, the rock band teased new music with a cryptic message shared by frontman Dave Grohl alongside a 13-second trailer of a never-before-heard track.

Their first single from the album — titled Rescued — has already been dropped and is available to listen to now. 

‘But Here We Are is a testament to the healing powers of music, friendship and family,’ the release read. 

‘Courageous, damaged and unflinchingly authentic, But Here We Are opens with newly released lead single,’ the press release continued.

They also stated that Rescued is ‘the first of 10 songs that run the emotional gamut from rage and sorrow to serenity and acceptance, and myriad points in between.’

‘Sonically channeling the naiveté of Foo Fighters’ 1995 debut, informed by decades of maturity and depth, But Here We Are is the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together in the first place 28 years ago, a process that was as therapeutic as it was about a continuation of life.’

The album’s tracklist includes: Rescued, Under You, Hearing Voices, But Here We Are, The Glass, Nothing at All, Show Me How, Beyond Me, The Teacher, and Rest.

At the end of March 2022, Hawkins was found unresponsive at a hotel in Bogota, Colombia.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and officials later revealed the cause of death was cardiac arrest. 

Foo Fighters — comprising of the drummer alongside Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee at the time— were in town for a festival performance as the band embarked on the South American leg of their tour.

They were performing their 2021 album Medicine at Midnight — their last with Hawkins.

In September 2022, the band hosted star-studded tribute concerts for Hawkins in both London and Los Angeles. 

With the loss of their bandmate, fans speculated when the rock stars would return until Shiflett, the guitarist, previously confirmed a comeback was imminent.

Foo Fighters had also announced that they are planning to perform at festivals and a series of upcoming headline shows in the states in 2023.

As of now, it has not been revealed who will be backing the band as drummer for the album or the upcoming tour planned for late summer and early fall.
