Courtney Love commemorates the 29th anniversary of husband Kurt Cobain’s death with a delicate photo of his hands: ‘Makes me miss him deeply’

Courtney Love has posed a poignant tribute to her ‘twin flame’ Kurt Cobain.

The 58-year-old Hole star marked 29 years since the death of her husband on April 5, 1994, by sharing a black-and-white picture of his hands clasped together — taken by R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe — and revealed the image makes her miss the Nirvana frontman ‘deeply’ almost three decades after he took his own life.

In a post on Instagram, Courtney wrote: ‘I love beautiful hands, it’s the first thing I look at in another. I love that the only photograph of Kurt that @michaelstipe took, … Micheal saw these hands. These left handed beautiful hands like a votive/ a mudra, a shot this singular, powerful photograph of my twin flame.  

‘It is one of the only images (or sounds/ tastes etc) that makes me miss him deeply.’

Courtney went on to reveal the picture reminds her of the Buddhist the couple used to take part in together and insisted she knows he’s in an ‘enlightened place’ since his death.

She added: ‘He chanted with me and often, and truly was moved by our Buddhist practice. Thus, I know he’s in an enlightened place, more so, than we here in mappo are. “The arms of a 1000 Buddhas outstretched to greet you,” the gosho says.’

The rocker concluded her post by signing off with a Japanese chant from both her and the couple’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain, writing: ‘Nam myoho renge kyo dear Kurt D. C. … I and we loveand miss you … ‘

Cobain was one of the most popular rock musicians of the 1990s thanks to his band Nirvana, which helped lead the grunge revolution until his untimely death.

The band, which also featured bassist Krist Novoselic and eventually drummer Dave Grohl, scored a number one hit with its second album, 1991’s Nevermind, which has gone on to be one of the most influential and popular albums of the decade.

The trio would release one more album, the darker but still popular In Utero.

But Cobain suffered from depression on and off throughout his life, as well as a heroin addiction in his later years.

He died of a self-inflected shotgun wound on April 5, 1994, though his body was not discovered for several days.

Cobain and Love had met sometime in the late ’80s or early ’90s, and they tied the knot in February of 1992.

They subsequently welcomed their daughter Frances Bean Cobain in August of that year. 

A profile that was also published in 1992 in Vanity Fair featured details of the couple’s dueling heroin addictions, which led the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services to temporarily move Frances to the custody of Love’s sister.

Frances also paid tribute to her late father on the anniversary of his death in a since-deleted Instagram Stories post.

‘Life is like a wave crashing upon the shore & death is like the wave returning back to the ocean, back to its most natural state,’ she wrote, sharing a previously existing quotation.

‘I forget exactly where I heard this quote but hearing it makes loss seem less scary and more like a return to the collective consciousness of loving awareness. Free from pain or human worry. Death serves a purpose. It is what makes life so precious, in the same way pain is purposeful because we wouldn’t know joy without it,’ she continued.

‘Everyday I aim to have gratitude for everything that surrounds this life including loss. It’s the ultimate teacher. Hold the people you love a little more tightly and a little bit closer for me today.’
