Barbie posters REVEALED: Margot Robbie stuns in striped swimsuit as Ryan Gosling shows off abs… and there are SEVERAL Barbies and Kens

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling led the newly-released posters for the very secret project Barbie released on Tuesday morning as DailyMail.com exclusively revealed Dua Lipa is set to record the theme song.

The 32-year-old Australian actress and 42-year-old Canadian actor were featured in two of the 25 character images as they play iconic doll couple Barbie and Ken.

However, one thing many have found out about the hush-hush project that many found out with the posters release is that there are several Barbies and Kens featured in the highly-anticipated film. 

Though little is known about the project, many of the film’s stars have been rumored to be playing alternate versions of the toy power couple as actresses also playing Barbie include: Issa Rae (president Barbie), Kate McKinnon (gymnast Barbie), Nicola Coughlan (diplomat Barbie), Alexandra Shipp (writer Barbie), Ritu Arya (journalist Barbie), Hari Nef (doctor Barbie), Emma Mackey (physicist Barbie), Dua Lipa (mermaid Barbie), Ana Cruz Kayne (judge Barbie), and Sharon Rooney (lawyer Barbie).

Following Gosling as Ken are Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Scott Evans. There is also one of Michael Cera which is labeled as ‘there’s only one Alan.’

There were also some in the posters featured as ‘humans’ including  America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Connor Swindells, and Jamie Demetriou. 

Will Ferrell is said to be playing the CEO of the toy company that may or may not be Mattel while Helen Mirren stars as the narrator.

There is plenty of secrecy surrounding the project as back in November, Robbie remained tight-lipped about her highly-anticipated role in a cover story for WSJ. Magazine.

The only thing that she elaborated on was that Barbie was ‘the child’ archetype for Margot as she said that even the most minuscule details revealed publicly could end up ‘blowing up into a headline.’ 

The two-time Oscar-nominee did compare her role in the project to one she had previously in 2017 critically-acclaimed film I, Tonya. 

She said: ‘That’s why I, Tonya intrigued us so much— because people had such an immediate and strong reaction to the name “Tonya Harding.” It’s kind of amazing to begin at a place like that.’ 

According to Vulture, the film is ‘a fish-out-of-water story about a doll who is ousted from toy society for not being perfect enough’.

Another synopsis on IMDB reads: ‘A doll living in “Barbieland” is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world. A live-action feature film based on the popular line of Barbie toys.’

Little Women and Ladybird filmmaker Greta Gerwig is directing the project, and wrote the script with her longtime partner Noah Baumbach. 

In November Gerwig said she was worried that the Barbie movie could end her career.

The Little Women filmmaker was keen to work with Robbie, who had secured rights to the story, but Greta admitted she feared the movie was a terrible mistake.

Speaking to Dua Lipa on the ‘At Your Service’ podcast, Greta, 39, said: ‘It was something that was exciting because it was terrifying. I think that was a big part of it, like: “Oh, no, Barbie.”

‘It felt like vertigo, starting to write it, like: “Where do you even begin, and what would be the story?” And I think it was that feeling I had was knowing that it would be really interesting terror. Usually that’s where the best stuff is, where you’re like, “I am terrified of that.” Anything where you’re like, “This could be a career-ender” — then you’re like, “I should probably do it.”‘

Margot has been long slated to play the world’s most iconic fashion doll in a live-action movie and back in December 2020, she vowed to give audiences ‘something totally different.’

Opting for something ‘a little left center,’ when it comes to her portrayal of the Mattel doll, the project will be produced by her LuckyChap Entertainment Company whose motto is, ‘If it’s not a f**k, yes, it’s a no.’

Barbie will be hitting theaters worldwide on July 21.
