B.J. Novak applauds ex-girlfriend Mindy Kaling as she’s honored with National Medal of Arts by President Joe Biden at the White House

B.J. Novak sweetly supported his ex-girlfriend Mindy Kaling as she was honored with a National Medal of Arts in the East Room of the White House in Washington, DC on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old Massachusetts native beamed beside President Joe Biden as she received her medallion for ‘advancing the arts in America and offering inspiration to others through their distinguished achievement, support, or patronage.’

Bruce Springsteen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Gladys Knight, and Vera Wang were honored with National Medal of Arts at the same prestigious event.

Kaling flaunted her recent 40lb weight loss (rumored to be the result of the trendy diabetic drug Ozempic) in a short-sleeved lavender mini-dress and matching pumps selected by stylist Hayley Atkin.

Hairstylist Marc Mena coiffed Mindy’s side-parted raven bob and make-up artist Eva Kim made sure she was ready for her close-up.

And in the audience applauding was B.J. (born Benjamin Joseph), who’s been practically inseparable from the six-time Emmy nominee he dated on/off between 2005-2013.

Kaling and Novak famously wrote and starred as Dunder Mifflin love interests Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard on NBC’s mockumentary sitcom The Office.

Greg Daniels’ critically-acclaimed show was a remake of BBC Two’s iconic series of the same name co-created by and starring Ricky Gervais, which aired for two seasons spanning 2002-2003.

‘We were in love with each other, and we were reckless idiots, and the two of us would argue about all of these things forever [in the writers’ room],’ the Vengeance director-star recalled onstage the PGAs on February 25.

B.J. also described their romance as ‘tumultuous, romantic, toxic, boundary-less mess’ before presenting Kaling with the Norman Lear Achievement Award.

‘He’s remained my closest friend throughout my entire career. He’s seen all the ups and downs, and it just means the world to me,’ Mindy (born Vera Chokalingam) gushed onstage.

‘I am so lucky that my favorite writer is also my best friend. I love you.’

And it isn’t just friendship as Novak also happens to be the godfather of the Velma producer-star’s five-year-old daughter Katherine Swati and two-year-old son Spencer Avu.

Meanwhile, Kaling and co-creator Justin Noble are hard at work on the third season of HBO Max’s critically-acclaimed half-hour dramedy The Sex Lives of College Girls.
