Pedophilia, Dark Net, & Danpi

There is an entire online world of onion sites that the public refers to as the “dark net” where most people care not (or dare not) to venture. It is believed to be the marketplace of ill-begotten human body parts, stolen 3rd-world children, and every drug imaginable; yet only the lattermost appears to be true.

The onion web and the onion router, TOR, used to access it is far more simple than its analogs on the “clear net” ie: – Chrome, Safari, DuckDuckGo, etc. – yet for such a simple network, it has garnered a reputation of obscurity. It is its very simplicity and random routing that enables a user to remain untracked. TOR simply does not have the complicated source code that its clear net counterparts have that enables them to exchange with advertisers, and consequently, track their users.

The onion sites are not necessarily evil. There are book clubs and gaming forums hosted on onion sites. There are users who wish only to escape the totalitarian network control of their local governments, for which TOR is their gateway to access the outside world. TOR is a safe haven for un-moderated and unbounded networking. Unfortunately, there is a dark side.

If a traveler were to venture onto the onion sites and learn how to navigate them, he likely will become bored within a week of doing so. He would grow tired of the broken websites, and empty forums. Unless he is interested in having drugs delivered to his doorstep, he would tire of perusing markets that offer nothing that he is interested in.

He may eventually find himself in the onion chat rooms, and it is there that he will discover rampant pedophilia.

The real-world pedophile and the clear net pedophile are low status losers rendered meek mostly by social dynamics and the outrage of the common man. The dark net pedophile, protected by anonymity only that TOR can provide is a much more defiant pedophile, often being so bold as to label himself as “pedobear” or “toddlersl*ts”. He does not face the constant risk of exposure that the clear net pedophile and real-world pedophile faces, but this advantage comes at a cost.

The dark net pedophile has mostly given up the pedo’s singular and often irresistible goal – that is, physically meeting a child in private. The new goal is to interact with a child online on an onion site. In other words, interactive porn.

A dark net pedo will occupy his time by sending his favorite pornographic images to other pedophiles in a chatroom or forum, as well as requesting a certain category of images from other pedophiles. Some of them even enjoy convincing healthy people to view these images or surprising those people with unsolicited child porn. In the end, his ultimate goal is to get a child to access these sites and to send images of himself to that child, have unnatural conversations with the child, and direct the child to send real-time images of him/herself.

Thus, if a traveler were to find himself surfing the onion sites, he may end up in chatrooms or forums (or comment sections of certain sites) where JPEGs are being sent and received from anonymous users. Thus, a traveler would be in the midst of pedophiles harming the next generation.

What is the nature of that harm?

What occurs within the mind of the victimized child? First, let us examine strictly what we know. When a child is oversexualized (a concept not limited to pedophilia), he is convinced to present himself as a participant on the sexual-relationship market, which results in him viewing adults (other participants) as competitors – as peers. Thus, the oversexualized child, seeing him/herself as the peer of adults, strays from the authority of his parental figures…and into the awaiting arms of certain twisted institutions for his parenting needs.

The oversexualization of a child produces an adult that cannot reason to the extent of which the world demands of him. Oversexualization produces people who cannot determine truth nor lie and instead rely on authority to tell them what to think.

We can conclude that pedophilia will tend to produce the same negative effects on cognitive ability that oversexualization tends to produce, in addition to other ill effects. Victimized girls will have decreased value in society (women are born with value and must preserve it while men must create their own value by becoming competent).

Some victimized boys, on the other hand, are spending their time in onion sites satisfying the desires of pedophiles (which they occasionally are paid for i.e., referred to as taking the easy way out) instead of developing skills and resilience in the real world. The former’s value is decreased while the latter’s ability to increase his value is hindered. Additional ill-effects are well-known and need not be discussed further.

Hope is not lost.

Let us examine the workload of the pedophile versus the workload of the interventionist. The dark net pedophile wishes to find a child on the clear net and coach that child into accessing the onion sites. The pedophile may have to engage 20 kids on the clear net before finally convincing one of them to download TOR and each of those interactions is a risk for the pedophile. He must risk exposing his identity and being tracked each time he attempts to redirect a child from clear net to dark net. He is also spending time in order to do so. It may take several days for him to convince one child. In summary, it costs him time and risk.

The interventionist – the person that wishes to be a bulwark between pedophile and child – assumes no risk (unless his country criminalizes the use of TOR). The interventionist does not risk his access to society or his social status within it; on the contrary, he may be greeted as a hero or heroine for his/her efforts to protect children. Furthermore, the amount of time required for him to successfully intervene (get a pedophile or victim to log out, 0r have a productive conversation with a child on the onion sites guiding them away) may only take an hour, excluding the annual or monthly training required to turn him into an interventionist.

An analogy that highlights this issue is that of a bowling ball balanced on the tip of a pen. The pedophile must painstakingly balance that ball while our job is to destroy his work. That is precisely what Danpi does.

What is Danpi?

Danpi is the organization specifically built around this problem. Society could, in theory, pay interventionists to carry out this task, but that would be a terribly inefficient way of going about it since we would require thousands of interventionists, and possibly a great deal more. No, a much more efficient way of handling this problem is to build an organization of dedicated specialists who could handle the administrative, technical, research, and intelligence work and offload the interventionist job to volunteers from around the world. Such is our approach.

Volunteers need specialists to find, catalog, and mirror the websites where this problem occurs. Danpi does this.

Volunteers need training and tactical updates to better carry out the role of interventionists. Danpi handles that training.

Volunteers need an intelligence team to communicate with and send reports to.  Danpi provides that.

Those reports need to be closely scrutinized to further develop training, track the patterns of dark net pedophiles, and to determine which children are targeted and what parents can look out for. Danpi’s dual research teams are built for such purposes.

With less than an hour of Danpi training, a volunteer can learn how to convince a child to disengage from a predator online. These children are waiting for someone to intervene (our researchers refer to the majority of them as conflicted).
