Your presence there will benefit the plans that they have for their society, and they are willing to do what it takes to keep you. They hand out supplies, trinkets, and incentives as you arrive; with all these added bonuses, what will motivate you to make your own way in your new world? This is the perfect cocktail to create a codependent relationship that, in the long run, will not benefit anybody.
